iPhone iOS7 Update

image from Apple
If you have an iPhone, have you done the iOS7 update? It looks so pretty, but all my friends who have updated are having issues that range from not being able to find their settings, to all of their contacts turning into numbers without names attached.

I'm not usually an early adapter. Thank goodness some people are, but those people are basically just helping to work out the kinks so that the second version runs more smoothly. Also, early adapters often pay more for an item that will usually come down in price within a year or two. And if an early adapter has a problem, it's more difficult to find a buddy who knows how to fix it.

When it comes to my phone, my usual plan is to wait a couple weeks before updating if there are major changes. I figure that way, if I have any problems, it's more likely a friend has experienced the problem and knows a fix.

But now my friends who have done the update have all started to comment on it being about time to buy a new phone. Most have the iPhone 4S, and are all itching for the 5S, arguing that iOS7 will run much more smoothly on a new phone.

The funny thing is that about a month ago -- just before iOS7 released -- at least two of these friends commented on the lack of a need to buy new phones.

Just a few weeks ago, they were commenting on how smoothly their phones were running even though their phones were nearly two years old. But now that they've done the update, they cannot wait to get their hands on new phones.

While I had originally planned to hold off just a couple weeks for the update, now that I've heard this change of tune in my friends, I think I may hold off on doing the update for as long as possible. I know that at some point I'll be forced into updating because apps will stop running well on my 4S, but for now, I'll hold off.

Right now, my phone works perfectly fine, and if avoiding the update keeps it running smoothly for a little longer, and therefore keeps me from feeling a need to purchase a new phone, I'll plan to avoid it for as long as possible.
