Make it Better: Easiest Hair Accessory Ever DIY

At prep school, I had one classmate who always pulled her hair into a ponytail using a pretty hair tie from J. Crew. It was a simple elastic with a leather bauble attached to it, making the hair elastic just a little more dressy. I eventually bought the same one, and later lost it.

It would be nice to have a pretty hair elastic, but J. Crew no longer has it available, and even if they did, I'm not sure I'd pay the J.Crew price -- most of their hair accessories list at around $25 -- which is fine, but not when one can make it herself so easily. Continue reading for the instructions...

-Hair elastic
-Button with hidden button hole

Slide the elastic through the hidden button hole until elastic is halfway through. Loop one end of elastic back through the other end, and pull tight.

If a preppy leather button isn't your style, there are millions of other options. Just think how pretty any of these sparkly buttons would be in one's hair.

Cost: $9 for the button.
